Bong Ihn Koh ’08 and Elizabeth Lim ’08 are recipients of the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts. The prize recognizes outstanding artistic talent and achievement in the composition or performance of music, drama, dance, or the visual arts. This prize honors the sum of a student’s artistic activities at Harvard.

"The first piece on the program, "Gilded Glass," showcased the ensemble [Brattle Street Chamber Players]'s precision and expressive range...even more impressive than the Players' confidence and technical skills was the coherence of Lim's composition. It was a bit of a relief to hear an enjoyable modern piece...the first movement was a rhytmically witty exchange among the strings, anchored by a playful call and response between the double bass and the cellos, while the second movement was sweetly melodic and made use of unexpected harmonic changes. The third movemennt, "Danse Macabre," combined material from the first two, producing a twisting, grotesque result..."

"the orchestra performed “Night Dance Ritual” by Lim, the winner of the BachSoc’s yearly composition contest. Lim truly had a voice of her own. The piece was eerie, beginning uncertainly with a rumbling timpani. As the dissonant strings evoked a dark world—with the cellos mourning and the harp dancing—the flute flew in search of light."

the inaugural Emerging Composers in Residence for Berkeley Symphony’s expanded Under Construction series
of new music readings. Each composer will have short works read and performed by Berkeley Symphony
Sundays at 7 P.M. on February 24 and March 30 at the First Congregational Church of Berkeley, and on
March 16 at the Berkeley Art Museum."
